Reflection on the observation

Hello, please let me proceed with my intervention in English, as a bilingual teacher, every opportunity to reinforce my English is welcome.

Today I did 3 observations at the ISABEL DE CASTILLA high school.

First one: Teacher María 2º ESO group of 16 students. HISTORY CLASS.
The teacher is not only a content provider, the human touch matters, María speaks a very “hypnotic” English, not loud neither too quiet, not fast neither too slow so the class flows easily, everything counts when engaging students. I could observe an important teaching key stone present: The ratio, it also really matters mainly if the main aim consist on the contrary of a classical master class, students must focus on “DOING” instead of “LISTENING”, students work in 5 groups of 3 under the supervision of the teacher who just punctually does global interventions to explain concrete topics or vocabulary. And finally a third key stone is “the physical place” also matters, so the class must be a proper place and well equipped, where having the availability of different collocations and variety of teaching tools.
Second and third observations: Teacher Sirka. Group 3ESO   18 students Biology.

                                                                                  Group 1ESO     25 students Geology
In addition, after the observations of my colleague Sirka, I want to remark the importance of combining the use of digital materials, Sirka uses proper editorial online content in combination with youtube selected videos. Videos are a very powerful tool in bilinguals, the selection of videos (or even edition of videos) is a hard task for bilingual teachers, the media we select for our students must be very clear, not too fast, adjusted to the level and profitable by students. Sirka uses other remarkable teaching “tip”: Connecting the class content with the students “real life”.

I would say that the lower levels (1st and 2nd ESO) are the most important ones when thinking about leading the students, teaching them not only knowledge but behaving conducts and study techniques.
